How the Devotionals Came to Be

In an effort to help the brothers and sisters at Lord’s Grace Church (Vancouver Canada) develop a more consistent quiet time to draw close to God, I had prepared two years of a “Devotional Guide” based on the themes of Being a Fully Committed Disciples of Jesus Christ and Marks of a Healthy Church.

At their request, I then embarked on a Five-year Devotional Guide that covered the entire Bible with the same emphasis as before, that is, to approach the throne of God based on the ACTS approach (i.e. Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication), so that we may develop a more God-centered time of devotion.

The ACTS Approach
  1. Each day, after “ACT”, we shall study the Word of God by reflecting on suggested questions in an inductive manner based on a more manageable (and often shorter) chunk of scripture, book by book (the purpose of which is not so much on arriving at the “model” answer, but to train our minds to think more responsibly and perhaps deeper into God’s truth);

  2. After which a short meditative article is provided for further reflection on issues related to the passage covered;

  3. Followed by a time of silence before embarking on a time of supplication.

As far as Scripture Reflection is concerned, we shall cover the entire Bible, book by book, beginning with the first book of the New Testament and ending with the last book of the Old Testament at the end of the fifth year. We shall be using the Wisdom Literature for Adoration, which will cover the Psalms, the Proverbs, the Song of Songs and Job, and we shall include Ecclesiastes in Scripture Reflection.
